The manifesto tries to make sense of, without denying the missteps, a photographic practice that’s also a way of life. The major reference point here is Georges Bataille, especially his “erotic” works. D’Agata recognizes his own attempt to blur the line that usually separates the artist from their “subject”—the need to push boundaries to confront, through the abject and the forbidden, a heightened awareness of self and the world that goes beyond the individual.
